Grading Components
Participation: Attendance and participation in all class activities is required for this course. Students will earn
participation points daily, which may be deducted due to lack of participation, disruptive behavior such as talking,
not contributing to group work or class activities and not doing the daily bell work.
Tests/Quizzes/Labs
There will be a test for each unit covered, approximately one every two or three weeks. Quizzes will be given on a
weekly basis. Missed tests, quizzes, and labs need to be made up and taken after school, and must be made up
within one week of the absence.
Homework:
Homework is an integral part of this class. All homework assignments must be legible and include a full name,
date, and hour in order to be graded. Late homework assignments will be accepted up to two days late, with a
10% point reduction taken each day the assignment is late. It is your responsibility to get your homework
assignment if you are absent, and you have one day after the date you were absent to turn in the assignment
for a full grade.
*In Addition* -We will be solving math problems in this class-all work must be shown in order to
receive credit
Classroom policies
Bring to class each day: textbook, notebooks, pencils, assignments and calculator
Please do not talk when I am talking or when classmates are talking
Please do not talk when you are supposed to be working alone
Please stay in your seat unless told to move
Make sure all trash has been thrown away and the area around your desk is clean before you leave class
Do not write on any classroom furniture, bulletin boards or walls-vandalism will not be tolerated and you will
serve detention in order to clean up what you defaced
Students may not touch or play with classroom items that they are not authorized to use-this is especially
important when working in the lab where many science supplies are stored
Bullying, name calling and insults will not be tolerated-automatic detention
All school rules will be enforced-see student handbook
Academic Misconduct:
Plagiarizing, cheating or gaining unauthorized access to material through such behavior as going into a teacher desk
or looking through a teachers materials will not be tolerated. Any such behavior will be grounds for a referral and possibly
suspension.
In this class, we will do many assignments in groups. Copying an answer or a paper from another student will result in
both parties losing credit for that assignment with no make-up. In lab groups, data gathered may be shared but all group
members are accountable for
completing the assignment in their own words.
